Soy Claims Count

Regular consumption of soy protein-containing foods and beverages may reduce the risk of breast cancer in women by as much as 22%, reports a study published in The International Journal of Cancer Prevention. The study is a meta-analysis of the 12 epidemiological studies published to date that relate to soy consumption and breast cancer in women. Solae has submitted a petition to the FDA for a Qualified Health Claim linking the consumption of soy protein-containing foods and beverages to a reduced risk of certain types of cancer including breast, prostate and colon cancer. The FDA was expected to announce a decision on the petition sometime this spring. The Solae Company, Debra Miller, 314-982-3087, DLMiller@solae.com, www.thesolaecompany.com
