In Japan, gelatin producer Jellice Co. has developed and introduced a functional food ingredient that is said to increase the body's ability to heal itself. The new product, collagen tripeptide HACP, is an odorless powder made from collagen extracted from pigskin. The ingredient activates cells in the body that produce collagen, significantly boosting their generation capacities. Testing on laboratory animals revealed that the product as much as doubles the speed of recovery from ruptured Achilles tendons and broken bones. Jellice has shipped samples and plans a full-scale launch in September, targeting 1 billion yen ($9 million) in domestic sales of the product within three years.
